Objective:To assess the efficacy and safety of Inferior vena cava filter (IVCF), then provide scientific guidelines for clinical practice. Methods:A hospital case-control study was applied to analyze the 113 patients with deep venous thrombosis (DVT), who were enrolled at the first affiliated hospital of Guangxi Medical University between August,2006 and April,2010. All these patients were divided into two groups. Group 1:51 patients placed the IVCF; Group 2:62 patients were not. During the follow-up study, the information was used to analyze the complication of IVCF.Results:After the follow-up study of 10~12 months, The complication rate of IVCF was low. There was no statistical difference between two types of IVCF in the complication rate of inferior vena cave obstruction (p>0.05). There was no statistical difference between Group 1 and Group 2 in the incidence of pulmonary thromboembolism. Conclusion:The rate of left lower extremity DVT is higher than the other side. The patients who were both lower extremities DVT had a higher rate of pulmonary embolism's incidence. The IVCF could reduce the PTE recurrent rate. SO the IVCF placement is an effective and safe method.
