Objective: Through the retrospective analysis of78patients withDVT who were inplanted in the inferior vena cava filter from Jan2012toDec2012in our hospital,we can evaluate the effectiveness of the venacava filter in prevention of pulmonary embolism in treating acute lowerextremity deep venous thrombosis(DVT).Methods: Seventy-eight patients in hospital with deep-veinthrombosis(DVT) who were inplanted the inferior vena cava filter (IVCF)below the renal vein through bilateral femoral vein and right internaljugular vein.36were male,42were female, ages ranged from20to85years old with average52.96±14.96years old. The average disease historywas16.58±33.05days. DVT involved in right lower extremity in25cases,left lower extremity in44cases, both lower extremities In7cases andboth lower extremities without DVT in2cases.There are8cases receivingCordis TrapEase perpetual IVC filters、28cases with Cordis OptEasetemporary IVC filter and42cases with home-made Aegisy temporary IVC filter. The filters were implanted through the healthy femoral vein or heright jugular vein.We carried out angiography of lower extremity at thesame time.If the DVT was cleared out completely within14days, theretrievabIe inferior vena cava filter could be successfully removed.Ifnot, the filter will be remained. Results: All of78cases with DVT were inplanted in the inferior venacava filters in the appropriate position successfully.74cases wereinplanted in inferior renal vein below0.5cm-1.0cm.4cases were inplantedBetween the hepatic vein and the superior renal vein.Ten filters wereremoved. The success rate of operation is100%. Follow-up was achievedin78cases for12months and,no pulmonary embolism occur duringfollow-up.Conclusion: Inferior vena cases filter is safe and easy to implant andsuccesfully prevents pulmonary embolism.
