Objective: To study the possible intervening mechanisms of Compound Long Yan Shen San(CLYSS)on experimental atherosclerosis (AS). To discuss its intervening mechanism from vascular endothelium-protecting and suppressing vascular smooth muscle cell(VSMC) to proliferate.Methods: The hyperglycemia atherosclerosis models of quails were established by high-fat diet .A total of 175 of male quails were randomly divided into seven groups: normal control group, model group, Simvastatin (6.6mg?kg-1) positive control group, Evening primrose oil (10ml?kg-1) positive control group and Compound Long Yan Shen San (187.5,375.0,750.0mg?kg-1) groups. The normal control group was fed on normal diet, while the other 6 groups were fed on high lipid diet. Gastric perfusion with corresponding drugs for twelve weeks. Then examined the lipid levels including TC, TG, HDL-Ch, LDL-Ch,apo-AI , apo-B in serum. The atherosclerotic plaque lesion in aortas and liver fatty degeneration were observed by eye and through light microscope. The expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in VSMC were observed by immunohistochemical stain and image analysis technique. Results:1. When Compound Long Yan Shen San treated groups compared with model group , the levels of TC, TG, HDL-Ch , LDL-Ch, apo-AI in serum were decreased,while the levels of apo-B was increased (P<0.01), as well as the levers of TC and TG in liver homogenate also showed to be decreased.2. The pathological lesions of atherosclerotic plaque in CLYSS groups were significantly lessened. The degree of live fatty degeneration in CLYSS groups were lower than model group.3. In the determination of PCNA, there was a significantly lower in CLYSS groups than that in model group (P<0.01).Conclusions:1. Compound Long Yan Shen San can effectively decrease the serum lipid and prevent the formation of atherosclerosis.2. Compound Long Yan Shen San can inhibit the expression of PCNA in the athrosclerosis. Results:...
