Caragana microphylla Lam. (Leguminosae) is a shurb distributed widely throughout the Euro-Asian continent, from Northern Europe and central Asia, eastwards to Russian Siberia, Korea and Japan, andsouth toNepal, Bhutan, and northern India. It has playes an very important role as a windbreak,as well as in stabilizing sand and in conserving soil and water. The genus of Caragana have a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicines, Mongolian and Tibetan medicines and are believed to"nourish yin, invigorate the spleen, temper the blood and promote blood flow". They have been used for the treatment of a wide range of ailments including fevers, swollen and painful throat, inflammation, wounds and infections, headache, dizziness, female disorders, hypertension, arthritis and cancer. Recently, The research results show that the plant has been proved to be a rich sources of stilbenoids, as well as flavonoids and triterpenoids, which exhibit a wide variety of biological activities including antioxidant, anti-in?ammatory, anticancer, antiviral and analgesic effects. The seeds of this plant have been used as a folk medicine for treating swollen and painful throat. However, the insufficient research of caragana microphylla Lam and the ambiguity of its bioactive components resulted in unable quality control of this crude drug. What is more, the genus of caragana playes an very important role as a windbreak,as well as in stabilizing sand and in conserving soil and water, what's more, using the seeds of caragana microphylla Lam. doesn't destory the plant, Therefore, developing the seeds of Caragana microphylla Lam into clincal drugs is beneficial to the ecological environment and has a economic benefits. In this study, we studied the chemical constituents and bioactivities of the seeds of Caragana microphylla Lam. The main contents of our study are as following these aspects:1 Study on bioactive components of Caragana microphylla Lam.Bioactivity guided isolation of anti-inflammatory fractions and compounds was undertaken by various chromatographic methods. The active fractions–acetoacetate fraction and n-butanol fractions were obtained from the 80% ethanol extract of caragana microphylla Lam. A total of 6 new with 36 known compounds were isolated from these active fractions and their structures were elucidated by detailed spectroscopic analyses on the basis of NMR, IR, and MS data. The major types of the isolated compounds were triterpenoids, flavones, steroids and phenolic small molecular compounds. In the seed of Caragana microphylla Lam.,we found triterpenoid saponins is the main components and exhibited a wide variety of biological activities.2 Pharmacological research of Caragana microphylla Lam.The investigation on analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity of the extract from the seeds of Caragana microphylla Lam was conducted. It was found that the acetic ether and n-butanol fractions showed the better anti-inflammatory activity, compared to other fractions. Among the pure compounds, Ntz-12,Ntz-13 both exhibited moderate inhibitory activity on NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells with IC50 value of 26.4μM and 32.2μM. In addition, Ntz-12,Ntz-13 showed weak activities against MCF-7,HL-60,HCT116 and A549 cell lines. In addition, Ntz-32 exhibited potent antibacterialactivity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis with MIC value of 3.125μg/mL.
