Objective: To discuss the therapeutic effect of vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) in the treatment of post-traumatic chronic osteomyelitis. Methods: From March 2006 to May 2009, 19 cases suffered from post-traumatic chronic osteomyelitis adopted VSD therapy after surgical fixation and debridement for 3~4weeks, the negative pressure was kept on 16.67~60 Kpa. One or two therapeutic periods were carried out depend on the condition. The mean hospital stay was six weeks, and postoperative follow-up 6 months to 2 years. Results: All patients with rapid control of their symptoms, turgidity and pain disappeared, sinus closed, 3 to 6 months later, antibiotic-containing artificial bone implanted, and callus grew in the review X-ray. None of the cases reoccured. Conclusion: In the treatment of post-traumatic chronic osteomyelitis, VSD technique leads to excellent drainage, unobstructed lavage and effective topical application of antibiotics. VSD can significantly shorten the healing time, it is a promising assistant treatment. Objective: The aim is to discuss the therapeutic effect of vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) in the treatment of osteofascial compartment syndrome. Methods: In the trial, 27 cases suffered from limbs fracture coupled with osteofascial compartment syndrome adopted VSD therapy for 7~10days after surgical decompression, the negative pressure was kept on 125~450 mmHg. After the disappearance of swelling, VSD was also introduced if the free skin graft was necessary.Result: all patients had rapid control of their symptoms. It showed that the swelling limb subsided and fresh granulation grew well after decompression. None of the cases occured wound infection. After the re-use of VSD on the surface of free skin graft, the skin graft survival rate was 100% and the survival area was 95% ~ 100%.Conclusion: VSD technique can get prompt and thorough decompression of the compartment syndrome and avoid wound contamination. It is propitious to accelerate the early wound healing, to shorten the treatment time, to reduce patient suffering and to reduce the workload.
