Objective:We measured plasma neuropeptide Y(NPY) and serum nitric oxide synthetase (NOS) levels in patients with acute cerebral infarction (ACI) to investigate the relationship in ACI between the severity of the disease and the levels of NPY and NOS,the relevance of NPY and NOS, the clinical and pathophysiology implication of NPY and NOS.Methods:Patients with ACI group for 30 cases;27 cases of healthy control group,in line with the income group of standards,in terms of age, gender composition comparable(P>0.05).We measurated by radioimmuno-assay of plasma NPY levels in patients of CI, with chemical colorimetric method of serum levels of NOS in patients of CI.It shoud be measurated for two times, one within 48 hours of onset and another in the first 10 days after admission. The CI group were given head CT and/or MRI examination. The infarct volume was calculated by pullicino. The neurological deficits of patients with CI were assessed by U.S. National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS).The results were dealed with the statistical software SPSS 11.5.Two independent samples T test was used to analyze the differences between the CI group and control group. The changes of plasma NPY and serum NOS levels use paired T-test respectively. The relationships between plasma NPY levels, serum NOS levels, infarct volume and NIHSS scores use linear correlation to analyze,P<0.05 means the difference has statistical significance.1,The mean of plasma NPY level in the patients of CI group within 48 hours and in the course of the first 10 days were lower than the control group but had no significant difference and didn't found correlation with infarct volume,NIHSS scores and the subtrahend of NIHSS scores between CI group in the course of the first 10 days and within 48 hours. The level in the patients of CI group in the course of the first 10 days was lower than the CI group within 48 hours but had no significant difference.2,The mean of serum constitutive NOS(cNOS)level in the patients of CI group within 48 hours was significantly lower than in control group (P<0.01)and negatively correlated with infarct volume,NIHSS scores while positive correlated with the subtrahend of NIHSS scores between CI group in the course of the first 10 days and within 48 hours(P<0.05).The level in the patients of CI group in the course of the first 10 days was significantly higher(P<0.01)than the level in group within 48 hours while the mean of serum cNOS level was significantly lower than the control group(P<0.01) and don't found correlation with infarct volume,NIHSS scores and the subtrahend of NIHSS scores between CI group in the course of the first 10 days and within 48 hours.3,The mean of serum inducible NOS(iNOS level in the patients of CI group within 48 hours was significantly higher than in control group (P<0.01)and positive correlated with infarct volume,NIHSS scores while negatively correlated with the subtrahend of NIHSS scores between CI group in the course of the first 10 days and within 48 hours(P<0.05).The level in the patients of CI group in the course of the first 10 days was significantly lower(P<0.01)than in group within 48 hours while the mean was higher than the control group but had no significant difference and don't found correlation with infarct volume,NIHSS scores and the subtrahend of NIHSS scores between CI group in the course of the first 10 days and within 48 hours.4,The mean of plasma NPY level, serum cNOS level and serum iNOS level in the patients in CI group within 48 hours was not found correlation with the control group and the CI group in the course of the first 10 days. There was significant difference between the subtrahend which between CI group in the course of the first 10 days and within 48 hours about NPY level and the subtrahend about cNOS level. 1,The plasma NPY levels of ACI patients decreased within 48h, with the change of course for 10 days after admission to further reduce however had no significant difference. The clinical significance of the plasma NPY levels in the CI patients remains to be further studied.2,The serum cNOS levels decreased of ACI patients both within 48h and in the course for 10 days. The serum cNOS level of ACI patients in the course for 10 days is significantly higher than the level of patients within 48h.So the serum cNOS levels of ACI patients within 48h was significantly negatively correlated with the severity of CI.3,The serum iNOS levels of ACI patients increased within 48h which decreased than the levels of ACI patients in the course for 10 days. The serum iNOS levels of ACI patients in the course for 10 days was higher than the healthy but had no significant difference. The serum iNOS level in the CI patients within 48 hours was positive correlated with the severity of CI. Consider it maybe join in nerve injury. It's level can reflect the severity of CI.4,It was not found correlation between the plasma NPY levels and the serum NOS levels of ACI patients. There were negatively correlated between the change of plasma NPY level and the change of serum cNOS level.
