[Objective] The study was to explore the effects of lycopene on blood cells and fibrinolytic activity in hyperlipidemia rats and the mechanism was tried to find out as well.[Methods] According to the level of serum TC, forty adult male SD rats were divided randomly into five groups:normal control group (A), high fat model group (B), fluvastatin sodium group 10mg·kgbw-1·d-1 (C), lycopene low-dose group 11 mg·kgbw-1·d-1 (D) and lycopene high-dose group 44mg·kgbw-1·d-1 (E). A group was fed with normal forage, B, C, D and E groups were fed with high fat diet. Fluvastatin sodium and lycopene were given intragastric administration in the last two weeks of the experiment. Caudal venous blood samples rats in all groups were taken in the beginning of experiment, the first weekend and the end of experiment for the examination of serum TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, SOD and MDA, WBC, GRAN, LYM, HGB, RBC, HCT, MCV, RDWCV, PLT, MPV, PCT, PDW, GMP-140, t-PA and PAI-1 were measured at the end of experiment. Atherosclerosis index and ratio of t-PA and PAI-1 were calculaed and the pathological changes of aorta were observed.[Results]1. Serum TC, TG and LDL-C of rats increased 3.94 times,1.12 times and 3.01 times respectively after 1 week of high fat feed. Serum TC, TG and LDL-C increased 13.81 times,4.59 times and 6.56 times respectively at the end of experiment in the fat model group; Compared with normal control group, in high fat model group, MDA significantly increased (P<0.05), SOD significantly decreased (P<0.05); WBC, GRAN, LYM significantly increased (P<0.05); HGB, RBC, HCT significantly decreased (P<0.05), MCV, RDWCV significantly increased (P<0.05); PLT significantly decreased, MPV, PCT, PDW and GMP-140 significantly increased (P<0.05); tPA and tPA /PAI-1 significantly decreased, PAI-1 significantly increased (P<0.05); atherosclerosis index significantly increased (P<0.05), Aortic lumen was irregular, intima became significantly thicker, and a large number of foam cells accumulated in the intima.2. Compared with high fat model group, in lycopene groups, TC, TG, LDL-C and MDA decreased, HDL-C and SOD increased (P<0.05); WBC, GRAN, LYM decreased (P<0.05); HGB, RBC, HCT increased, MCV, RDWCV decreased (P<0.05); PLT increased, MPV, PCT, PDW and GMP-140 decreased (P<0.05); tPA and tPA /PAI-1 increased, PAI-1 decreased (P<0.05); atherosclerosis index decreased (P<0.05), foam cells decreased in intima, pathological changes reduced in aortic. The effects were obvious in 44 mg·kgbw-1·d-1 group.[Conclusion]1. In hyperlipidemia rats, blood cell count, shape and function were exceptional; fibrinolytic activity decreased; aortic intima became significantly thicker, a large number of foam cells accumulated.2. Lycopene can reduce lipids, increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes, protect blood cell and promote fibrinolytic activity, reduce aortic lesions of hyperlipidemic rats. The effects were obvious in 44 mg·kgbw-1·d-1 group.
