The objectives of the trial are to evaluate the efficacy of Danshen JuemingGranules (DJG) treating hyperlipidemia of the aged, to observe the influence ofDJG on vascular endothelium, hemorheology, haemostatic activity and fibrinolyticactivity. A 4-week, randomized single blind clinic trial was made, in which 30 agedpatients with hyperlipidemia were divided into 2 groups randomly, with 20patients in the treated group and 10 patients in the controlled group. The formertook the DJG orally three times per day with 12g each time. The latter were givenorally Xuezhikang Capsule (XC), 0.8g every time, two times per day. Thereafterthe indexes about serum lipid, hemorheology, haemostatic activity, fibrinolyticactivity and vascular endothelial functions were observed at baseline and terminalpoints. The indexs above were analysed through spssl 0.0. DJG showed efficacy to decrease significantly total cholesterol (TC). The totalefficiency to reduce blood lipid is 65%. In this respect it's effect can be comparedwith that of XC. DJG could also reduce significantly the levels of blood viscosity150sq, fibrinogen and TXB2/6-KeTo-PGFta. In the respect of improving the syndromeof phlegm and blood stasis, DJG has an obvious advantage over XC. The conclusion is reached that DJG has a significant efficacy in reducing TC,and has a similar effect as XC in reducing blood lipid. It can also improve the vascular endothelial functions, blood viscidity, haemostatic activity and fibrinolytic activity. The efficacy of DJG to improve the syndrome of phlegm turbility and blood stasis has an advantage over that of XC. The Chinese medical method of invigorating Qi to promote blood circulation and dissipating phlegm is one effective principle of treating the old people's hyperlipidemia.
