ObjectiveTo study the effect of Chinese gallnut water to close exposed dentinal tubules after subgingival scaling, providing a theoretical basis of reducing the root dentine sensitivity for clinical application.MethodsWe choised 120 teeth which can not be reserved because of severe periodontitis.4g.L-1 Chinese gallnut water for experimental group, 1g.L-1NaF for Positive control and Deionized water for Negative control.We carried out root surface scaling on isolated teeth, then measure the roughness of these teeth's root surfaces by Roughness measuring instrument and observe surface conditions by Electron microscopy to compare the structural changes on the surface in each group.Results1,The roughness of Chinese gallnut group(0.94±0.04μm)are less than Negative control(1.53±0.08μm),and less than Positive control (1.10±0.08μm),and there was a significant difference between them.2,Root surface of the deionized water group had significant scratches,but also shows a large number of exposed dentinal tubules; NaF group also had significant root surface scratches, exposed dentinal tubules were partially closed and scattered finger-like structures are also visible on the root surface; gallnut water group didn't have obvious scratches and exposed dentinal tubules, but can be seen scattered ball-like structure on the root surface.Conclusions1,The Chinese gallnut water can reduce the Ra of root surface after subgingival scaling.2,Chinese gallnut water can close exposed dentinal tubules and repair damaged cementum after subgingival scaling.
