Objective:To test the effect and find the advantages and disadvantages of vacuum sealing drainage and to provide a more effective method in dealing with defects of soft tissue, we perform this clinical observation using multiple indicators to compare vacuum sealing drainage and conventional dressing change therapy in dealing with soft tissue defects in the limbs. Methods:From January 2008 to December 2009,43 patients in total with soft tissue defects in the limb was treated and followed up in our department.23 patients were treated by vacuum sealing drainage and 20 patients were treated by conventional dressing therapy. Record the VAS pain grade, their family members' satisfaction, different kinds of complications encountered, the time needed before skin-grafting, the survival rate of first time skin-grafting, the time of treatment, compare the records by statistics methods and draw the conclusion.Results:1. The difference of the VAS grades before and after the debridement are 4.98±0.77 in vacuum sealing drainage group compared with 2.40±0.59 in conventional dressing change group, and the family member satisfactory scores are 8.61±1.31 compared with 7.30±0.98 (P<0.001)。2. Vacuum sealing drainage brings about fewer complications than conventional dressing therapy. In the vacuum sealing drainage group, there is one patient lose more than 500ml blood in one hour after operation, the reason is that vacuum cause the bleeding of the anastomotic.3.20 patients out of the total 23 patients in vacuum sealing drainage group didn't need to do the skin-grafting operation again; and the number is 12 out of 20 in conventional dressing change group, statistic analysis showsχ2=4.083, P<0.05. 4. The time from the debridement to skin-grafting operation in vacuum sealing drainage group is 11.9±3.6 days, compared with 24.9±5.3 days in conventional dressing change group. P<0.001.The total time in hospital is 29.6±7.9 days, compared with 38.1±10.5 days, P<0.05.Conclusions:In this clinical observation, we find that compared with conventional dressing change, vacuum sealing drainage can reduce the pain of the patients, enhance the satisfactory of the patients'family member, promote the growing of granulation tissue, shorten the time in hospital, enhance the survival rate of first time skin-grafting, and brings about less complications. It is a more favorable therapy in dealing with soft tissue defects.
