Purpose:To observe and study the clinical efficacy of using Yi qi chu you decoction (a decoction with the following effect:invigorating spleen to reduce phlegm, and promoting blood circulation) alongside anti-Helicobactor Pylori (HP) triple therapy. This is an attempt to combine Chinese Medicine syndrome differentiation and anti-HP medication to improve clinical efficacy in treating verrucous gastritis. The underlying mechanism will also be investigated.Method:Subjects consisted of outpatients from the Gastroenterology Department of Fuzhou Second Hospital.60 subjects diagnosed with verrucous gastritis (Spleen-deficiency and blood stasis syndrome) were selected. They were randomly divided into intervention group (n=30) and control group (n=30). Sex, age, the course of disease, main symptoms, signs, and gastroscopy images between the two groups were not significantly different (P>0.05). Intervention Group:Subjects were given one serving of modified Yi qi chu you decoction daily, half of each serving were taken before breakfast and the other half before supper. Anti-HP triple therapy consisted of Clarithromycin 0.25g bid, Metronidazole 0.4g bid, and Losec (Omeprazole) 20mg bid, taken one hour after breakfast and supper. The anti-HP triple therapy were taken for 1 week, and the herbal decoction were taken continually for 3 months (one treatment course).Control Group:Subjects were given anti-HP triple therapy as mentioned above for 1 week. They continued to take Losec 20mg qd, before dinner, for 3 more weeks after the initial week. One treatment course of Sucralfate 1g tid, before each meal, were also prescribed. A comprehensive therapeutic effect were investigated one week after the above treatment. Symptoms, signs, gastroscopy images, pathologies, and HP clearance rates of the two groups before and after treatment were compared.Result:1. Symptoms scores between the control and intervention group were different.Statistical analysis showed P=0:02<0.05. Treatment were effective in both groups. The efficacy seen in the intervention group was significantly better than the control group.2. Comparing the two groups in terms of the efficacy in treating symptoms and signs of Chinese Traditional Medicine (TCM), the intervention group had 3 cured subjects,29 subjects saw improvement, and 1 subject that showed no effect. The total effective rate for the intervention group was 96.67%. The control group had 1 cured subject,22 subjects saw improvement, and 8 subjects showed no effect. The total effective rate for the control group was 73.33%. Statistical analysis showed P=0:03<0.05, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant. This implied that both groups showed effect in treating the symptoms and signs of TCM. Better treatment performance was seen in the intervention group.3. The control and intervention group both showed significant efficacy when comparing the before after results of gastroscopy, pathology, and anti- HP effect. The two groups performed equally.Conclusion:1. The combination of Yi qi chu you decoction and anti-HP triple therapy can improve patient's clinical symptoms.2. The combination of Yi qi chu you decoction and anti-HP triple therapy showed better effect in improving the symptoms and signs of TCM than anti-HP triple therapy alone.3. Side effects were not found in the clinical usage of Yi qi chu you decoction.
