In recent years, with expanding openness and inter-cultural communication with western countries, every aspect of western countries rushed toward us, we have more and more chances to communicate with the westerners. However, who and what we face are from different countries and different cultures, languages, customs and habits. Therefore, the cultural differences and cultural conflicts between Chinese and Western, and the resulting misunderstanding have brought about the obstacles in inter-cultural communication.In Chinese, culture is one of the existing vocabulary and new concept endowed with rich content. Culture is the material wealth and spiritual wealth human created, the social ideology, and a historical phenomenon. Culture which has such rich connotation and denotation has strong attraction. So in recent years, culture gradually became a hotspot and research focus. On one hand, the mistranslation caused by idioms, especially the misunderstanding and conflict, is a problem of communication. On the other hand, the loss of source language in intercultural translation is widespread.In communication with western countries English is the key media which all depend on. English and Chinese, English and American culture, and Chinese culture and their differences are our topics. From the perspective of culture, this paper firstly described Chinese culture and American culture, and then analyzed their culture differences. The paper gave plenty of examples to illustrate Chinese-English idioms in inter-cultural translation, and analyzed the culture draining phenomenon. Its contents include proverbs and idioms in Chinese and idioms and slangs related to politics, economy, daily life in American and British culture, and some popular phrases on the internet. Then from the aspects of negative transfer of culture, cultural vacancy, cultural conflicts, religious beliefs, values, idioms' cultural loss in inter-cultural translation are discussed. Finally the corresponding translation strategies of those idioms were given.In short, translation itself is to convert languages in order to achieve the aim of communication. Not only should we know different languages, but it is also very important to have a deep understanding of different cultures.With deepening process of communicating and understanding with different countries, we have known different cultures, so we should keep the cultural style as far as possible in the intercultural translation.The paper intends to find out problems in idioms translation, analyzes their influences to Inter-cultural communication caused by culture draining, and proposes the coping strategies in order to facilitate our cultural exchange with the outside world.
