Contrastive Study Of Culture Differences On Animal Idioms Between China And Thailand

For most of foreign students, the study of Chinese idiom is one of the most difficult aspects during Chinese learning. Chinese idiom, as the combinations of essence of language, epitome of history, accumulation of civilization and enrichment of wisdom is considered to be great a treasure in Chinese culture, and indicates kind of wisdom. This paper is comprised of three chapters. In Chapter one, the author has a general demonstration for idioms related to animals between China and Thailand, mainly from three aspects including idiom meanings and sources and applications. In Chapter two,the paper contrast the semantic of animal idioms in Chinese and Thai,to find the corresponding relations of the Chinese animal idioms and Thai animal idioms,and discusses the literal meaning and figurative sense of the Chinese and Thai animal idioms and relationship,between the vehicle and the figurative meaning.In addition,this chapter the author makes a comparison between the Chinese and Thai animals idioms in their cultural connotation,life style,idea and beliefs and an exploration into the root causes of semantic and cultural differences.Finally,the author sums up the whole paper and puts up with some teaching suggestions for reference.
