To learn English is not only to learn the culture and scientific knowledge in the English-speaking country, but also to gain each kind of information in the world as well as carrying on the international contact as the important tool. Moreover, along with society's development, the nation needs more people who have synthesizing English capacity. The recent reform program on the new teaching material and the new teaching methods and the new curriculum system and so on is dynamically strengthening Secondary Vocational School English teaching at a full-scale with irresistible force. The teaching material is the curriculum core while the teaching material decides the teaching content and the form as the reform key points. The present use of"English for Secondary Vocational Schools"(Hereinafter referred to as"Zhejiang Education Edition"—"ZEE"),published by Zhejiang Education Publishing House, started in 2005. In the teaching of this edition, we find merits and defects. Now many places of Zhejiang province have been compiling Base Module textbooks. Vocational Base Module materials are urgently needed for further research.This thesis bases on education, linguistics, language learning theory, language teaching theory and teaching theory in the evaluation of research results, comprehensive use of literature, questionnaire, interview and classroom observation. Analyzing materials of"Zhejiang Education Edition"and"New Concept English"(Hereinafter referred to as"NCE"), the thesis studies the service condition, finds out the teaching material problem which exists in use, then puts the practical proposals forward to a better use and reforms teaching materials by using the theoretical research and the investigation. The present thesis is divided into five parts: The first part is the introduction which states background of Base Module English compiling for Secondary Vocational Schools, the research category and methods. The second part is Literature review on English for Secondary Vocational Schools research summarizes and studies and the basic theories of compiling English textbooks. The third and fourth parts are about the overall description of the two kinds of teaching materials–"Zhejiang Education Edition"and"New Concept English"as well as teaching materials'questionnaire surveys,then propose thoughts on Base Module English compiling for Secondary Vocational Schools. The fifth part is: Conclusions.It is hoped that this thesis can provide some constructive suggestions for Base Module English compiling for Secondary Vocational Schools, to seek for one new way to appraise teaching materials and to promote the current compilation and use of"English for the Secondary Vocational Schools"as well.
