Design And Application Of Chinese Teaching Material For South African Police

With the growing Chinese fads,Chinese for special purpose continually develops to meet the multiple demands of Chinese learners.This paper takes the police officers who took part in the Chinese language and culture training in Port Elizabeth,Eastern Cape,South Africa as the research object to design Chinese learning materials for South African Police.Based on the Coordinated Structure-Function-Culture compiling concept and pertinence,practicability,science and interest compiling principles,I designed a questionnaire to investigate the topics and Chinese expressions that South African police need most in daily life and at work.According to the result of investigation,the compiling framework including the content and range of Structure,Function and Culture were made.After that,I designed the dialogues based on the Function,arranged words and sentences based on the topics and teaching syllabus and combined Culture and communicative Function together to design the self-writing texts.At the end of the paper,I retrospect the process of compiling the teaching materials to rethink the insufficiency of my work according to my experience in teaching South African police Chinese and the interview with my students.The Chinese-English translation,the order of the contents and capacity of the courses are needed to be improved.The arrangement of vocabulary and the grammar are also needed to be reconsidered.
