Fuzziness is now regarded as an intrinsic feature and universal phenomenon in the objective world, and language, as a medium reflecting the world, of course has the trait of fuzziness. People often use fuzzy words to accomplish different purposes of communication and the aesthetic value of language fuzziness is innegligible. Since the inception of fuzzy set theory put forward by the American scientist L. A Zadeh in 1965, deep transforms have taken place in the fields of logic, philosophy, linguistics and rhetoric, and resulted in more and more attention to language fuzziness. This thesis starts with language fuzziness and then goes on to discuss how to realize the reproduction of fuzzy beauty in literary translation.Fuzzy language not only plays an important role in natural language, but also in literary works. In literary works, images, artistic conceptions, styles and other literary elements are always expressed in a fuzzy way, which features literary works with special and eternal artistic enchantment and makes them a source of enjoyment of the beauty for the readers. Therefore, the translators should give adequate consideration to language fuzziness while translating literary works and keep its aesthetic value in the translated products. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter is about the ontological research on language fuzziness, mainly involving the theoretical background and theoretical system. Chapter Two inquires into the fuzzy beauty in literature, mainly including the classification of literary fuzziness, the features of fuzzy beauty in literature and the aesthetic value. Chapter Three concludes that there are some difficulties to realize the reproduction of fuzzy beauty in literary translation due to the differences between English and Chinese and other elements. In addition, sometimes it is unavoidable to obliterate fuzzy beauty. The Fourth Chapter mainly discusses the translation principle and strategies to reproduce the fuzzy beauty in literary translation. The author makes some research on equivalent theories and puts forward that fuzzy equivalence can be taken as the concrete principle to reproduce fuzzy beauty. In addition, the author presents five strategies in literary translation. This thesis explores the close relationship between fuzziness and translation and gives a sound research on language fuzziness and fuzzy beauty in literary translation. What's more, the principle of fuzzy beauty reproduction is proposed with feasibility.
