Youxianku is the symbolic work of the maturity of the development of tale of the marvelous of Tang Dynasty, which possesses the definite author and the time of creation. It is made of both regular and irregular sentences, full of dialogues, poetic chants and lays bed for environmental descriptions. Therefore, it has many colloquial words and displays an oral tone. Focus on the study of Youxianku, this thesis attempts to show the lexical features and the importance during Modern Chinese language period through careful comparison and deep study of the words in this book.The body of this thesis can be divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the compiler, contents, edition and the present state of the study on this book. Through contrasting with"Great Dictionary of Chinese"and"Tang and Five Dynasties Linguistic Dictionary", it fully studies and depicts the lexical features and the language value.In Chapter II , referring to the"Great Dictionary of Chinese"and"Tang and Five Dynasties Linguistic Dictionary", it studies on the lexicographic value of this book from four different aspects:1) Making up for the error of recording the words and phrases;2) Complete the meaning of words;3) Shifting the example of a word putting into use to an earlier time;4) Adding other documented evidence for a word.All together it explains 246 unrecorded words and 53 words which have incomplete meaning or error. It also lists 60 late exampled words and 67 words which only have one example of evidence or none of these.In chapter III, the thesis mainly focuses on the mistakes of the shape of words, the rare words and being different from the usual meanings. It studies 24 difficult words, expecting a reasonable explanation of these words.The appendices are made of two parts:Appendix I: Youxianku proofread reading notes mainly refer to the un block-printed edition at the beginning of Jianghu period , correct the misproofreadings from Youxianku included by Modern Chinese grammar data Collection(Five Tang Dynasty) edited by Mr.Liu Jian and Mr.Jiang Shaoyu.Appendix II: The word list of Youxianku arranges and marks the words in this book according to a certain stylistic rules and layout, and further displays the lexical features and language value of Youxianku.
