A Study Of The Translating Strategies In The Two Chinese Versions Of Jane Eyre From The Aspect Of Skopos Rule Of The Skopostheorie

Jane Eyre was a famous book which was very important in English Literature and also a frequently discussed subject in translation practice and study. The researches always analyzed the Chinese versions from different aspects such as:text cohesion, literal translation and free translation, aesthetic value, the feminism etc.. On the basis of referring to their previous study achievements, this thesis chooses to argue on the comparison of the translation strategies on Li Jiye's version and Zhu Qingying's version from the perspective of the Skopostheorie.The Skopostheorie is a very essential theory in translation theories. The basic connotation of it is it is believed that translation is not only a symbol transformation on the basis of origin text, but a more complicated action which aims for realizing the information cross-cultural and cross-language. Translation is an action, and there is always a purpose for this action. Literature is also an action, so the literature translation is an action with a certain purpose. The translator can choose the content in favour of realizing the requirements and purposes of translation, and choose the way of expressions which are beneficial to the purposes to generate the text.This thesis studies the two versions by the principles of Skopostheorie:Intention Rule; Coherence Rule; Fidelity Rule; and the Hierarchical Order of the Intentions Rule, and analyzes the different translation strategies under the different translating purposes. In the introduction of this thesis, it mainly tells about the significance, and background of the body and the structure of the thesis.The first chapter is the literature review of this thesis, and this chapter tells about Jane Eyre and its translations, and summarizes the research and comments on the different translations, especially on Li Jiye's version and Zhu Qingying's version.The second chapter gives a detailed description of the theory used in the thesis to analyze the two translations and its origin, development and main argument.The third chapter is about the differences of the two translating purposes of the two versions. This chapter analyzed the translating purposes through the translators'preface and what are the reasons caused the differences on their purposes.The fourth part is the key part of the whole thesis which focused on the specific translating strategies taken by the translators because of their different translating purposes.The last part makes a conclusion out of the previous chapters which is when the translators translate the same origins, sometimes they will choose the different strategies on different purposes because they grown up in different times of social backgrounds, culture, political and economical environment. And it also gives suggestions to the future related studies.This thesis states that because of their huge differences on the times, social ideological trend political and economical environment in which the two translators grown up, and produced an effect on the translator's subjectivity that caused the distinctions of their translating purposes which finally came out of the two different translations. Thus it proves the value of Skopostheorie on studying of literature translation, which is the translator can choose the content in favor of realizing the requirements and purposes of translation, and choose the way of expressions which are beneficial to the purposes to generate the text.
