Translation Of Foreign Trade Correspondence

In this thesis, the author has made a research about how to apply the Cooperative Principle (CP for short) to the translation of foreign trade correspondence(English - Chinese)with analyzing the Cooperative Principle, features of the foreign trade correspondence. Through the research, the author draws a conclusion that it is better to apply the Cooperative Principle to the translation of foreign trade correspondence, with which application, the sender and receiver of the correspondence can understand and communicate with each other better than before, thus both of the parties can promote the business further.The development of the foreign trade in China and the author's previous work experience contribute to the choice of the research. With the development of China's reform and open, the foreign trade is playing a more and more important role in the economy. The number of the staff engaged in the foreign trade is increasing sharply with the qualification of a foreign trade company to do the foreign trade business changing from the previous examination and approval system to the present registration system, which calls for a specific principle to guide the foreign trade correspondence translation that is an important part in the foreign trade process. The years'experience in the foreign trade field and the importance of the translation of the foreign trade correspondence is the two reasons for the author to make the research.The thesis consists of six parts, including the part of Introduction and Conclusion.In the introduction part, the author presents the general outline of the thesis, including the background and significance of the thesis, research questions and the process of research and data collection of the thesis.In chapter one the author will present a literature review about the translation of the foreign trade correspondence, including the brief introduction of the use of each kind of correspondence, the domestic research and foreign research of the translation of the foreign trade correspondence, in which the author gives a brief definition of the foreign trade correspondence and puts the emphasis on the domestic and foreign research of it.In chapter two the theoretical framework of the thesis will be presented by the author. The contents include Grice's Cooperative Principle and the relative information about it, such as the background and significance about the Cooperative Principle etc.Chapter three is the second important part to the whole thesis. In this part, the author will research the features of the foreign trade correspondence, which will be acted as a platform to research the translation of the foreign trade correspondence on, including the features of the word, phrase, and sentence structure etc.Chapter four consists of two main parts. In the former part, the author will introduce some other theories about the translation, pointing out their advantages and disadvantages and explain why the author will choose the Cooperative Principle as the guiding theory after making the comparison. In the latter one, the core part of this thesis, the author will present how the translation of the foreign trade correspondence is carried out with the guidance of the Cooperative Principle.Conclusion: in this part, the author will draw the conclusion after the research and also will point out the insufficiency in this thesis, which may provide other researchers who are interested in this field to make further research.
