English has already developed into an international language. English would appear different in various countries as mother tongue or foreign language, showing their different characteristics. The researches of American English, Canadian English, Australian English which can be taken as Standard English, have achieved fruitful results. With the rapid development of China, China plays an active role all over the world. Scholars have begun to pay their attention to China English and Chinglish.Since Ge Chuangui proposed the definition of China English in 1980s, great importance has been continuously attached to the research of it. Although there are some heat debates about it, the definition of China English has gained acceptance in the academic circle. China English is an existing variety of English which is based on Standard English. It is used to express what is specific to China. Chinglish is different from China English. According to Joan Pinkham, Chinglish is a hybrid language. Basically, it is neither English nor Chinese but that might be described as"English with Chinese characteristics". With more and more Chinese are learning English, the discussion of English in China jumped out of the academic circle. It has become a hot social topic. And the discussion has aroused the academic circle's deeper study on this problem.The focus in the research of China English and Chinglish are as follows: China English and Chinglish in translation; relationship between language and culture from a viewpoint of intercultural communication; China English and Chinglish in English teaching, aiming to advance the development of China English and help Chinese English learners prevent mistakes of Chinglish.The research has achieved fruitful results from the above angles. However, native English speakers'attitude toward China English and Chinglish bears investigation. The results are bound to be influential to the development of China English and Chinglish. Language attitude has always been an important indicator for the study of cultural identity. Foreign language teaching is a international trend. Nowadays, there are more and more exchanges among countries. Multi-cultural awareness should be considered in the international communication. With the increasing external contact with other countries, Chinese people should gradually increase the intercultural communicative competence and get ready to be an "international person." Attitude surveys of native English speakers'are rarely involved before. What role do China English and Chinglish play in intercultural communication? What do English users think of China English and Chinglish? It does have value for specific study on these problems.The thesis aims to do an investigation of native English speakers'language attitude toward China English and Chinglish. The goal of the research is to get to know to what extent the native English speakers could understand China English and Chinglish, in other words, the acceptability of China English and Chinglish. The results indicate that the participants accept China English better than Chinglish. Participants who have lived in China for a long time are more familiar with China English expressions. As for Chinglish, most of participants tend to take it as an interesting cultural phenomenon. Thus, Chinglish does make troubles in their life in China. It may make them embarrassed and confused sometimes. Even some participants point out that they have been influenced by Chinglish and began to use it sometimes.The research is a corner of iceberg of the native English speakers'language attitude China English and Chinglish. With deeper study, heat discussion about the topic may be beneficial to English teaching and a better intercultural communication between China and English-speaking countries.
