A Study On The Development Of Thai Confucius Institutes

As the development of China's comprehensive national strength and the rising of its international status, as well as its rapid economic development in the 21st century, the world has witnessed the upsurge of learning Chinese, which provides a unique strategic opportunity for the international promotion of Chinese language. In this context, the Chinese government launched the "Chinese Bridge" project to construct 282 Confucius Institutes and 272 Confucius Classroom, distributed in 88 countries and regions in the world the end of 2009.Due to the different cultural traditions and backgrounds in the individual countries and regions, the Confucius Institute in different countries and regions carry on different school systems and have varied development situation.Thailand is now the country with the one of the largest number of Confucius Institutes in Asia, with a total of 12, which the number is among one of the best in the world. This article first describes the status of the Confucius Institute of Thailand, and then analyzes the reasons for the rapid development of the Confucius Institute of Thailand. And then expounded the main reasons for the rapid development of the Confucius Institutes in Thailand as China's strong economy strengthen, friendly relations between Thailand and China, and the pushing of Thai Royal and Thai of Chinese descent. And then continue to analyze the strategy of Glocal experience in the development of the Confucius Institute in Thailand. This article finally analyzes the difficulties faced by the Confucius Institute in Thailand, and give suggestions to solve the problems on textbooks, teachers and staffs in Confucius Institute of Thailand under the guideline of the Glocal strategy theory, and referent to the successful experience of the Confucius Institute in the other countries or regions, and the international promotion institutions in other countries.It is helpful to study the current situation of Confucius Institute of Thailand, to analyze historical background of the development of the Confucius Institute in Thailand, and to summarize the successful experiences of the Confucius Institutes in Thailand, for guiding the construction of Confucius Institutes in other countries.
