With the intermingling of international economy and culture, tourism culture has played a more and more important role in the cultural exchanges. China is a big country with five thousand years of history and rich tourism recourses. In order to promote the Chinese culture and its economy, tourism translation has become vitally important. However, tourism translation is still in constant exploration due to various reasons. This thesis is devoted to making some contribution to the tourism translation through relative researches into tourism texts from the perspective of Functional Equivalence.Functional Equivalence has a considerable theoretical guidance and practical significance especially for the tourism translation--a practical style. This theory emphasizes the purpose of translation, that is, to meet the demand of the target language readers. In the English translation of Chinese tourism texts, this purpose is to meet the demand of the English-speaking visitors and thus to achieve cross-cultural communication, to attract more foreign visitors and promote Chinese culture. The purpose of this translation determines the principle of Chinese-English tourism translation, which is to achieve the expected effect of the English translation and to propagate the Chinese culture. Therefore, translators need to select a proper translation method in the processing of cultural information, which can fully reflect the cultural differences between languages so as to meet the needs of tourism and cultural features.For the present situation of tourism translation, the author strives to put the target readers in the centre during the processing of tourism translation with the readers' reaction at the first place. With Eugene A Nida's functional theory as the theoretical guidance, this paper intends achieve the most natural equivalence and an agreement between the response of source readers and target readers from several aspects such as Chinese and western thinking modes, expressing modes and so on.. This paper tries to put the functional equivalence into the tourism translation and puts forward some corresponding strategies, in the hope that it can provide certain help to tourism translators so as to promote our tourism by attracting more and more tourists to China and get to know China.
