With the increase of China's comprehensive national strength and the development of economics,China has a closer relationship in politics,culture,and science and technology etc.China's tourism industry has become one of the most prosperous and fast growing industries in the world.In recent years,more and more tourists around the world travel to China.Whether China's tourism text could be translated into English accurately and clearly or not affects not only China's foreign publicity and cultural exchanges but also china's image and international recognition on the international stage.However,there are sorts of unsatisfactory problems in most of today's English translation of tourism texts.For example,the quality of the translation is inferior and crude;the translation is rigid and lack of aesthetics and there are also lots of semantic ambiguities and mistakes in the translation.Therefore,it is necessary to study and explore how to improve the quality of China's tourism text translation.In this study,the author tries to proceed from the German functional translation theory and take Vermeer's Skopos theory,Rice's theory of translation criticism,Nord's function plus loyalty principle as important principles to analyze the characteristics of Chinese and English tourism texts and their functions in different language environment,so that we may explore the strategies and methods of C-E translation,enhance the image of tourism products and effectively exchange culture with foreign countries.The German functional translation theory and the representative theory are clearly presented and the applicability of its translation practice is analyzed at the same time.The author makes a comprehensive analysis of Chinese and English tourism texts,elaborates tourism translation difficulties caused by the differences between language and culture,values,aesthetic characteristics,religious differences and lists the typical problems in current China's tourism text translation.Then translation methods such as amplification,omission,analogy,and rewriting translation are proposed according to the specific situation so as to achieve the specific translation purpose and the desired effect of translation.Based on the analysis of the functional theory and a large number of cases,we may come to a conclusion that the functional translation theory is an effective theoretical guidance for tourism translation.Besides,the key to tourism text translation is to reach anticipated effect in the target groups and realize the goal of attracting foreign tourists and delivering and integrating culture.What is more,limitations of the study are discussed and the suggestions to translators are put forward.Researches should continue to explore the translation theory that has guiding significance to solve translating problems effectively.With continuous practice and reflection,we aim to improve the standard and quality of C-E tourism translation and enhance the international image of tourism industry of our country.
