A Study On The Economic Geography Of Hanjiang River Valley In The Ancient Times (Qin To Yuan Dynasties)

The economic enter in ancient China moved gradually eastward and from north to south. In the Hanjiang River Valley, there were not only the population growth but also the more and more economic activities after the Southern Song dynasty, and the regional economic structure was formed gradually. A few scholar research the historical geography of Hanjiang River Valley as a whole object instead of the "Hakka Learning" and "Teochew Studies". This dissertation aims to analyse the historical conditions and internal power during the forming procedures in the economic structure of Hanjiang River Valley. This research starts from the perspective of the material basis and forms of economic activities in the region before the Yuan Dynasty. There is reference value in the establishing economic polices on the development of the West of Taiwan Straits.Chapterâ… studies the natural environment and humanities environment in the Hanjiang River Valley. The natural environment includes river networks, topography, climate and natural resources. Humanities environment emphatically focused on the research of politics area evolution and migration. The researches focus on the production conditions in the agriculture study, the profession categories in the handicraft industry study, the routes in the transportation study, the commercial categories in the business study. Chapterâ…¢also studied the distribution of the rural fairs along the Hanjiang River and its branch. This distribution showed the close relation of regional economic contacts, also shows the fact that Hanjiang River played an important role in the structure of the regional economies. Chapter IV analyses the economical pattern characteristic of the Hanjiang River valley in the Song and Yuan dynasty, It also tries to explain the mechanism on geography and economy.
