The major transformation happened in Mo Yan's novels in 1990s last century—turn to reveal the consumer society from portraying the country world. Looking through the research materials on Mo Yan, we can see his exploration of art characteristic such as the discussions based on the theories of "Writing of Desire", "Writing of Revelry" and "Bachkin's Polyphonic Theory". But this paper makes a fresh field to analyze Mo Yan's works from the angle of "Fetishism" based on his novels. Meanwhile, this paper interprets his works of desire to understand Mo Yan and his works deeper and wider. This paper points out the communication and resistance between Mo Yan and "Fetishism" during his course of writing and his independent efforts under the pressure of "Fetishism". Moreover, this paper states the efforts and capacities of "Fetishism" in modern society.Foreword introduces the transformation of the social background and literary situation between 1980's and 1990's, enumerating the research achievements on the characters and language styles of Mo Yan's novels while illustrating the reasonable existence of fetishism and the analytic ways of his novels by contrast with the writing experiences of him. Through the theoretical explanation, the dissertation tries to establish the relationship between Mo Yan and Fetishism effectively. This paper emphatically distinguishes concept of fetishism in the development of western theoretical history first- from the commodity fetishism in Marxist political economics, to the materialization theory of Lukacs, from the symbols fetishism of Jean Baudrillard to the Al Jun·O Pardew's production fetishism and fetishism of the consumer. It also attempts to discuss the transformation and the relation beyond these theories. The second Chapter selects the representative images in Mo Yan's work to analyze the Mo Yan of individual emotional expression by systematizing of his literary images. Through analyzing the personal choices and actions according to the changes of society, rises to the metaphor of social status. Further through grasping Mo Yan's historical and narrative rhythm of performance history, it makes the way to organize the text time, to understand the transformation of Mo Yan's literary realm from rural society to mass consumption society and the roles which commodity fetishism plays. In the third Chapter, with "Frog", "Wine country", "The 41st gun" as examples, from analysising the structure of text, the author points out how people's desire used by fetishism. Though the literary text shares some same structures with fetishism, vigilance is still necessary because fetishism may erode literary text. In the context of the globalization of economy society, it can be discussed that the social causes and psychological condition of fetishism to explore and deepen the proposition of fetishism. The part of conclusion sums up the fetishism of Mo Yan, defining it as a temporary strategy that can alleviate the anxiety of people, warning people to be careful with the possibility of heterization. In contemporary society, although fetishism could afford the normal function of the society organizational strength, we cannot ignore the fact that it pays a high price of depriving subjectivity and imagination of individual. Moreover, it cannot fully solve the problem that how the literature deals with the relationship between the fetishism and itself--to make it in, or to resist but making itself increasingly marginalized. The future is still full of inestimable variables.
