As a historical biography from Chun Qiu, Zuo Zhuan lays more emphasis on historical facts. Unlike Chun Qiu's mixed features of dazzling writing style, variety vocabulary and complex contents, Zuo Zhuan inherited the delicate linguistic model of the classical predecessors, combined with abundant materials from daily life. Thus, it is a valuable resource of idiom. This thesis is based on the research of Zuo Zhuan. It locates, organizes and summarizes proximately 160 idiom and categorizes them into five types according to their features, meanings and resources:A. words of the sage from the past; B. warnings and mottos; C. social life; D. historical facts; E. bibliography references. The thesis aims at the historical and logic demonstration of the stability and expansion of the idiom and the evaluation of their historical status and value toward Cultural Critical studies.
