Qijiang county lies in the south of Chongqing Municipality, which is also lies in the southest of Szechwan Basin. The dialect of Qijiang belongs to the branch of the Minjiang river delta of the Southwestern Mandarin with the distinctive feature that the ending tone"rusheng"is still reserved as an independent tone, but which is a transitional zone from"rushneg"area to"non-rusheng"area that the characterastic of rusheng is weakening and dying away. Before my investigation, scholars havn't been studied comprehensively and systematicly on Qijiang dialect. Is's the first time that this paper with the first-hand materials and the guide of the theories of Chinese Dialectology, Phonology, Phonetics and Historical Comparative Linguistics. This paper investigated and studied the phonetic system of Qijiang dialect, and compared it with mid-aneient phonetic system and the phonetic system of present Beijing dialect from diaehronic and synchronic aspects to reveal the Qijiang dialect's phonetic state and its evolution laws. Dialect is a living fossil of the evolution of Chinese. The deeply study of Qijiang dialects can not only get the development trajectory itself, but also has a great significance towards a better understanding of the evolution of the Sichuan dialect. There are eight chapters in this study. Although these variant pronunciations haven't changed the basic phonetic system of Qijiang dialect, but its development tendency can obviously be shown.Chapter eight the phonetic characteristics of Qijiang dialect mainly came from impact of the intensive dialects and the constraints of the internal factors, as well as the historical immigrating and the penetration for geographical dialect contact and phonological structure etc.
