Integrated by predicative verbs and complement verbs, Verb-Resulative Construction (VRC) can be divided into autonomous VRC and non-autonomous VRC, but their autonomy are far more complicated, though closely related to the autonomy of its components but different. This thesis targets VCRs consisted of verbs and verbs (VV type), deeply discussing the autonomy of this type of VCRS and its relevant problems.Firstly, the thesis reviews the autonomy of predicative verbs and complement verbs which consist of VCRs. Through analyzing semantic relation——causative relation denoted by typical VCRs, then from the angle of the occurrence of verbs and syntactic position meaning of VCRs, the thesis educes that predicative verbs are equipped with semantic characteristics: action and autonomy, but complement verbs: state and non-autonomy. In light of this, we are able to explain why autonomous verbs mainly play a role as predicative verbs and non-autonomous verbs mainly play a role as complement verbs. On this base, the thesis divides VCRs into two major types: autonomous verbs+ non-autonomous verbs and non-autonomous+ autonomous verbs.Secondly, according to the theory of original category based on cognitive linguistics, the thesis discusses the problem of continuum from autonomy and non-autonomy, and then puts forward the concept of the autonomous level of VCRs, followed by the analysis of semantic and syntactic standards used to judge the level above. The semantic standards are based on life, consciousness, willingness and controllability and syntactic standard is based on imperatival sentence. On the basis of such standards, the VCRs can be further divided into six smaller types whose semantic and syntactic characteristics are carefully studied in the following. The autonomy of such six types of VCRs can be ranked from high to low, which forms a continuum in which the autonomy gradually decreases but non-autonomy gradually increases, which is so called the level of VCRs.Finally, the thesis, from the angles of objects, causative force and integration, discusses how they affect the autonomy of VCRs and how they even interact each other.
