In the context of globalization and informationization, cross-cultural communication between China and western countries flourishes. The research of news headline translation has started accordingly, but the focus is mainly on the concrete translating methods and techniques, leaving theoretical study much to desire. This thesis attempts to explore news headline translation from a perspective of intertextuality which is first put forth by Kristeva. The theory stated that any text is constructed of mosaic of quotations; any text is the absorption and transformation of other texts. Krsiteva conceptualizes intertextuality as a necessary way how a text is a text. She insists that a text can not exist as a hermetic or self-sufficient whole. A text can be a text only through the contribution of other texts. Since any text is the absorption and transformation of another, we can safely claim that the production of texts is on the basis of intertextuality, so dose the interpretation of texts. Translation involves the interpretation of one text—source text (ST) and the production of another text—target text (TT). Without doubt, translation has a close relationship with intertextuality.Under this theoretical framework and by analyzing intertextuality of different levels in news headline, the author points out that intertextuality is a prominent factor in news headline, so the success of news headline translation has much to do with the way to deal with intertextuality of various levels. On the basis of intertextuality and the new expouding of translation from the perspective of intertextuality, the author combines intertextuality with the news headline translation practice and puts forward different translation methods as how to handle intertextuality in news headline translation in order to achieve the translation purpose.
