It is widely agreed that vocabulary in the textbooks should be translated by a media language (usually in English), especially in the introductive textbooks. However, due to the semantic difference between Chinese words and English, it is often found that two or more than two different Chinese words are translated by a single English word, which confuses Chinese learners a lot. Therefore, this article is going to investigate into Chinese words with same English equivalents in the elementary textbooks.There are altogether five parts in the article.Chapter One:introduction. This chapter is focused on the literature review, looking back on the previous studies on word translation in the word list and words with same English equivalents. Meanwhile, this chapter states the value and meaning of the topic and study scope and methods as well.Chapter Two:features of the verbs with same equivalents in the elementary textbooks. This chapter picks up verbs with same equivalents in three different textbooks, investigating numerical and distributional features.Chapter Three:classification of verbs with same equivalents. In this chapter, verbs with same equivalents are classified from three different angles:syllable, morpheme and semantic relations.Chapter Four:discussion on the translation methods to verbs with same equivalents. Firstly, in this chapter, some principles put forward by other writers are summed up; secondly, some effective methods to translating different types of verbs with same equivalents are being discussed.Chapter Five:conclusion. This chapter summarizes the whole article and points out the shortages and weaknesses it still has.
