With more foreign students'coming to China to study, more concerns have been put on their cultural adaptation in China. But experts have not attached much importance to the different adaptation situations of students from different countries. This study is about the cultural adaptation contrast of German and Japanese students in China, which, leads to a further study of the cultural adaptation contrast of students from different cultural backgrounds. The study adopts both quantitative and qualitative methods to hold a research on German and Japanese students. At the same time,3 students from the two countries were respectively chosen to be interviewed and studied in order to know their experiences and feelings in studying and life in China, and their attitudes toward Chinese society. Questionnares and interviews were held among students from these two countries from such perspectives as social environment, study, interaction with local people, etc. According to different backgrounds and some relative theories of cross-culture communication, the questionnares and interview records are analysed to explore their differences when adapting to Chinese culture and their different attitudes and methods when facing these difficulties. The study findings show:students from different countries have different adaptation situations; when confronting the difficulties in adaptation, the students must face and solve them positively rather than evade them.; the host country must create a better social and campus environment to reduce cultural conflict and help forengn students to adapt to new culture. |
