The Research On Poetry And Ci On Cheng Ling Of Manchu Poet

Cheng ling (1814-1865), or Zi jiu,or Shu du(second name),or Zun sheng,or Cang an,or Bie ye fisherman(nick name),was born in Jilin. His first name is Hu Lu Yu and he is Manchu people of Xianghuang Banner.In his Political career, the highest office he had ever had is Guizhou Provincial judge and lieutenant-governor.In his daily life,he likes making poetry,with four volumes of'Size of the Ya-tang Poems" and one volume of "Ice Silkworm Ci ". Since the late Qing, his poems were highly praised by the poetry critics. Especially,his Ci lyrics were more popular.About 210 poems made by Cheng ling were preserved, which were about reflecting the social reality and chores of his life, expressing personal emotion, describing landscapes, chanting things and history, chanting inscriptions, talking about art,and so on.Overall,Cheng ling's artistic style of his poems is wide and flowers of words,eligant and mellow of meanings,it can be included in the Dao-Xian Song poetry school.A large numner of poems that related to current affairs in Cheng ling's poetry are expressing large epic value. Cheng ling's poems also have the double tragedy meaning:The political pain of home and country;the aspirations of making contributions but meet with frustrations,and life dilemma about joining an official position or not.About 54 Ci lyrics made by Cheng ling were preserved,in which Long lyrics are slightly more than Short lyrics. The subject of Ci lyrics covered love, objects, personal emotion and paintings. Short lyrics emulated the famous poets in Five Dynasties and the Southern Tang and early Northern Song Dynasty.The artistic style of his Ci lyrics is deep and euphemistical of meanings,graceful and clean of words.His Long lyrics inherited Changzhou Ci School's "deep depressive"style.So,the style of his Long lyrics are deep depressive but some words are obscure, which is similar to Wu Wen-ying and Wang Yi-sun,the famous poets in Southern Song Dynasty.Cheng ling's Ci lyrics performed the national Psychology of Manchu intellectual in Late Qing:Solitary clean as ice, honest and touching.This makes the aesthetic style of "Ice Silkworm Ci " is typical and specially significant in the Ci history of late Qing Dynasty.
