Based on the approach of experimental phonetics, this study is mainly designed to examine Thai students'acoustic characteristics of stress in their uttering declarative sentences featured with rising tone, level tone, rising tone and falling tone. According to the experimental findings, the author attempted to summarize the similarities and differences of acoustic characteristics in uttering declarative sentences between Thai students and Chinese native speakers.By the analysis and comparison, the author argued that, firstly, Thai students have a tendency of pitch-down in uttering normal sentences; secondly, Thai students tend to employ three ways to position the stress-duration of pronunciation, pitch divide, and soprano tail. But compared with Chinese native speakers'pronunciation, Thai students'duration of pronunciation is not long enough, and their pitch gap is not big enough; thirdly, Thai students have difficulties in employing right ways to position stresses accurately in most cases.By doing so, this paper will not only enriches the Chinese acquisition study, but also provides some meaningful suggestions for the teaching of Chinese phonetics to Thai students.
