Based on some daily teaching experience and the needs for intermediate and advanced levels' Mandarin learning in several international schools that the author had been worked in Shanghai, Poetry of Tang Dynasty could be an effective tool or element to promote and improve students' Mandarin learning on several aspects. According to this idea, this thesis makes out several practical teaching of Tang poems to students with various levels, trying to find out the influence of such teaching on students learning and explore more potential of learning Tang poems in real Mandarin classroom teaching.First this thesis concludes various theories and methods of pre-Tang poems teaching, not only in teaching Chinese as foreign language field, but in national Chinese education and SLA fields. The discussions of possible poems teaching are also included. As students and Tang poems chosed by learning levels and SLA theories, several practical teaching had been carried out in certain time periods. It records the whole practical processing, with various feedbacks and reactions from students, parents and the teacher during the procedure, and integrates different reflection and influence on students' Mandarin learning caused by Tang poems. Then based on before-and-after learning, it compares students' Mandarin levels on five aspects:listening, talking, reading, writing and interesting. It tries to find out the differences, thus to identify whether these practical teachings has achieved the author's expectation and the real results that got in these practices.Poetry of Tang Dynasty is not a hot spot in teaching Chinese as foreign language field. According to its unique cultural background and knowledge, it seems not so popular or appropriate in Mandarin learning. However, whether it could be taught, who could learn it and how to teach it, for these questions'theories, practices and discussions are thought-provoking, but seldom seen in teaching Chinese as foreign language field. This thesis is an attempt for such questions.
