Chinese characters occupy a large proportion in Korean vocabulary. In ancient times, Chinese characters were widely used in Korea. After a long period of time, these characters had gone through a great change in pronunciation, meaning and part of speech. These words look the same, but actually there are many differences in usage, meaning and its commendatory and derogatory. Due to the influence of mother tongue, the Korean students consider less the differences between two languages, especially those words with the same character but different meaning. Therefore they tend to make mistakes or misuse the words when they want to express themselves, and finally couldn't express their thought accurately. At present, China and Korea have come out with some results on the research about the words which are the same Chinese characters but different meanings; however the research on the commendatory and derogatory is not active. So the main direction of this research is to define the commendatory and derogatory of those Chinese characters, and propose some suggestions on how to teach that kind of words. This study will help the Korean native speakers, at the same time make up a deficiency in teaching the Chinese vocabulary, especially the commendatory and derogatory of those words which have the same characters but different meanings.
