Gayatri C. Spivak is one of the representatives of the contemporary Western post-colonial critics, her post-colonial theory focuses on the book" A Critique of Postcolonial Reason:Toward a History of the Vanishing Present ". This thesis take the book as the main object of study, through reading and studying, to analyze the pros and cons of postcolonial rational criticism in the book. This thesis is divided into the following sections:Introduction, this part mainly introduces Spivak and the book, including the information about Spivak's life,content abstract and research status of the book, as well as a little explanation for the title of this article.Chapter One, this part combs the theory mannagemant of postcolonial rational criticism which makes philosophy as the breakthrough point. Taking philosophy as the breakthrough point, Spivak disclosed empire ideology which runs through the western philosophy mind. Combined with full text, this thesis summarizes the goal and the way of postcolonial rational criticism.Chapter Two, this part discusses the strategy and method which postcolonial rational criticism uses. In this book,Spivak skillfully uses the strategy of deconstruction, and pays more attention to the rebuilding above deconstruction. In order to deal with the relationship between essentialism and anti-essentialism, Spivak incorporates "strategy" and "essentialism", comes up with strategic essentialism. In addition, Spivak blends and fixes various theories, makes use of the tension of theorys, especially plays complementary role of feminist perspective. It is the study of humanistic discourse of intertextuality that offers Spivak the breach of finding subaltun's voices, and the way of studying which from multi-angle and multi-field avoid the understanding of simplified.Chapter Three, this part reflects deficiency of postcolonial rational criticism. As unreliability of the strategies and methods, and the elite thinking of The First World throughout, postcolonial rational criticism inevitably goes toward the abyss of self-digestion. Deconstruction which possesses the power of destroying everything makes itself toward deconstruction inevitably. Undependability of strategy essentialism in practice makes this method become the pretence of essentialism. Although share identity with the colonized, Spivak is difficult to get rid of the elite thinking of The First World, so that her postcolonial rational criticism belongs to self-criticism of imperialism, and Spivak also becomes an accomplice of imperialism in a way.The final part as supplement, this part focuses on that Spivak turns her postcolonial rational criticism to globalization criticism, and has a brief introduction on the contents and features of Spivak's globalization criticism.
