Lexicology teaching has always played an important role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, Without corresponding vocabulary, learners can not organize the semantics they want to express according to grammatical rules, so they can not communicate using Chinese language accurately and appropriately, Furthermore, confusable Words are the emphasis and difficulty in vocabulary teaching. When the students master a certain mount of vocabulary, they will inevitably encounter a large number of Confusable Words. However, many of the learners can not find a method to distinguish the confusable words, therefore they stop making any progress in Chinese learning. This is quite a common problem in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.According to the characteristics and realities of teaching Chinese as foreign language teaching and combined with previous research results, this paper investigates a range of issues related to confusable words and put forward some views on this question. An investigation and analysis is conducted among students to know the situation of grasping the confusable words; On the foundation of the results of this investigation, the five main types of confusable words are summarized:words of similar shape, words with the same or similar pronunciation, words with the same morpheme, words with the same translation and words of the same basic meaning, After that, the main features of confusable words are summarized according to the types of them:misused with high frequency and wide distribution, and complex confusing situations; Then the causes of confusable words because is explored:confusable words find their cause in Chinese words themselves, and the causes also lie in teachers, teaching materials and students; According to the different types of confusable words, the corresponding discrimination methods are put forwarded; Finally, some teaching strategies are proposed in the light of the causes of confusable words:make use of the method of defamiliarizing the familiar to interpret the words, pay attention to using comparative studies of Chinese and foreign language in teaching, focus on symptomatic progressive stages of discrimination of confusable words, focus on the context and the design of typical illustrative sentences, focus on the characteristics of collocation, focus on the combination with Chinese culture. These teaching strategies can be a help in teaching confusable words as a foreign language.
