Research On Garrison System Of Suiyuan City From The Late Qing Dynasty To Early Republic Of China

The first goal to setting Suiyuan garrisoned city in Qing dynasty was to guard against Jungyar tribe and supervision towards south desert banners. Along with strengthen of controlling to south desert banners, function of Suiyuan garrisoned city general had been expanded and encroached on traditional power of Tumed banner ceaselessly. To the late Qing dynasty, Suiyuan garrisoned city general have not only power to have jurisdiction over two Tumed banners, but also governed Yeke Joo and Wulaγancab Leagues. And Suiyuan garrisoned city general became the highest officer combining with military and administration power. So, Suiyuan garrisoned city generals played important roles to controlling Mongolia and safeguarding ruling of Qing dynasty.But along with the invasion of the modern western powers and political changes of Qing dynasty, especially in the implementation of Qing dynasty New Deal and fall of Qing dynasty, social situation of Suiyuan region had been entered into unprecedented big changes period. Almost 20 years of late Qing dynasty, every field of Suiyuan Region, which military, political, economic, cultural education and customs experienced drastic changing. Suiyuan garrison city situation from late Qing dynasty to Republic of China is an important part of those series changing. Researching on series changing is academic weak links and subject of the thesis. So, the author of the thesis base on Manchu Memorial to the Throne of Suiyuan Garrison City Generals, Suiyuan Memoir, Memoir of Qing Emperors, Government Gazette, Annals of Suiyuan, and researching on changing of Suiyuan garrisoned city from late Qing dynasty to Republic of China.The full thesis is consisted of four parts. In the chapterⅠ, based on Previous research, the author mainly discussed setting of Suiyuan garrisoned city, changing of its functions, living situations of troops. In the chapterⅡ, the author researched on changing of Suiyuan garrisoned city general functions under the implementation of Qing dynasty New Deal. In the chapterⅢ, the author set forth to situation of Suiyuan garrisoned city and mainly activities of Suiyuan garrisoned city general. Basically around stationed troop adaptation, function of Suiyuan general, bread-and-butter issues, the author discussed fall, changing and development trend of garrison system in Suiyuan.
