At present, traditional English teaching is still in the leading position among colleges, but the contents of teaching and learning were confined to the limitation of class time. It is hard to reach the goal of education because of the crammed teaching and passive receiving mode. Therefore, the cramming method of teaching is controversial among education. It is a beneficial attempt to replace the traditional English mode by a new one.Since entering 21th century, internet not only brings convenience to our daily life, but being introduced into teaching field. With rapid progress obtained in information technology, it will have more in-depth influence on the language teaching. As the new teaching theory presented and practiced, which is so called"constructivism theory", more influential effects will come out. Webquest is a new teaching mode invented by Bernie Dodge and his colleagues in Santiago University, which is based on internet resource. Now, Webquest teaching mode enjoys popularity in the world wide. After Webquest teaching mode is introduced in China, teachers and education researchers show great interest to it and is trying to put it into daily teaching practice. Meanwhile, correlative study about this mode is widely developed. According to the domestic Webquest teaching material, it seems a little deviated from the core idea. As for the application objective, it suits to be arranged with those cooperative courses. As a language course, there should be situational conversation and role play set for students among English class. Therefore, the combination of Webquest mode and traditional English teaching will not only help students have direction and purpose during learning English, but promote them explore in the process. In view of the present situation of English teaching, the application of Webquest mode in English teaching is discussed.This paper firstly analyzes and evaluates the development of English teaching and then analyzes the availability and superiority of the Webquest theory in the English teaching under the guide of the basic Webquest theory. Its focus is that whether the Webquest English teaching can improve students'English. In this study 105 students from Cultural promotion 1 and Cultural promotion 2 Grade 2008 of Heng Shui College were selected as objects. Cultural promotion 1 is the control class which still receives traditional English teaching and Cultural promotion 2 is the experimental class which receives Webquest-based English teaching. The duration lasts for 4 months.The data was collected by the ways of English standard examination and questionnaire after the end of teaching and was analyzed with the use of Descriptive Statistics, Correlations Analysis, and Independent Sample Test of SPSS 13.0 for windows. The effectiveness of the two classes was compared to verify the impact of the Webquest English teaching on the English studying.The aim of this study is to provide evidence and enlightenment for the reform of English teaching.The results are as followed:(1) The application of Webquest English teaching can improve the English level of students.(2) The application of Webquest English teaching can enhance students'interests in learning English.(3)Gender difference really occurs in Webquest-based foreign language instruction.Based on the above-mentioned results, there are some advises in the English teaching. It is important to enhance motivation and collaborative atmosphere. It is also necessary to select the right teaching mode. The teachers should rethink their traditional educational beliefs.
