The thesis applies literature review, experiment and questionnaire to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of the TBLT (Task-based Language Teaching) in the English through Reading, Writing and Pubic Speaking Course for the improvement of oral English. The task-based language teaching approach is based on a lot of researches done by foreign language teaching researchers. This approach has been one of the most effective language teaching methods since 1980s. The key of TBLT is"learning by doing". TBLT focuses on the importance of organizing a course around comunicative tasks that learners need to do outside the classroom, and facilities learners to do tasks required in language use. This thesis is composed of four chapters. Firstly, a brief introduction is given to the topic. Chapter one reviews the traditional teaching methods in oral English teaching, and introduces a new teaching method, the task-based language teaching. Chapter two expounds the theoretical background, constructivism and humanism, which are underpinning English through Reading, Writing and Public Speaking Course, and presents a constructivist model. Chapter three applies TBLT to English through Reading, Writing and Public Speaking Course including task selection, task materials, and activities. A sample lesson plan is given here. Chapter four contains the experiment hypotheses, subjects, instruments and analyses which are related to the findings of the experiment. Finally, a conclusion, limitations and suggestions for further study are given here.
