Qingdao Mao Opera Troupe And Inherit The Development Of Research

"Mao Opera" is a popular local opera in cities like Qingdao, Weifang and Rizhao etc. of Shandong Province, and is widely accepted by the local people. The thesis is to introduce Qingdao Mao Opera Troupe, the earliest and best developed Mao Opera Troupe in China. The Troupe is well known locally and countrywide and is quite representative for its vitality when most other local operas are on the edge of extinctionThe subject of this thesis includes the 3 aspects as listed below,1. The basic traditional Mao Opera vocal singing and its innovation The vocal music is a combination of melody and lyrics. As the core of opera music, it colors the plain words and makes it to be aria lyrics with stronger emotions. As the opera music evolved into the Banqiang Form, a certain rule is formed with which a series of patterns are formed that are based on one basic tune and diversified in mode, melody, speed and rhythm.2. Development of Mao Opera Troupe and Status of Mao Opera at each stage The opera development has to adapt to the trend of The Times, thus, the inheritance and innovation of traditional music culture may differ from time to time. History proved that one art form's life and development require reform and innovation. By learning from essence of other operas, the troupe has to create contemporary dramas to reflect the features of The Times and to refresh the traditional vocal singing, character roles, and the contents. Therefore, the development of the Troupe is quite critical to the development of the traditional opera music culture.3. The Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection and DevelopmentMao Opera was approved in 2006 as the National Intangible Cultural Heritage. After that, the government issued a series of policies to protect and support its development. The troupe then made self-improvement to adapt itself to keep pace with the Times. The thesis adopts Ethno musicological Theory and Methods to analyze the development of Mao Opera Troupe and Mao Opera in different periods, including theoretical research of Music Ontology and the reforms implemented by the local opera troupes to adapt to the development of the society. The thesis is aimed to review the phenomena occurred in the development of Qingdao Mao Opera Troupe from local history and culture point of view.
