Study On The Xiyu Duhu In The Western Han Dynasty

According to the wooden slips in Han Dynasty and the historical documents, the thesis does some textual research on unit setup, organization system, duties and historical role of Xiyu Duhu in the Western Han Dynasty, and it also records their main events.Above all, the author does the textual research on the origin and setting of Xiyu Duhu,and agreed with LiDalong's opinion that the envoys missioned by Han government were the rudiments of the Xiyu Duhu. Besides, the author also does reseach on the setting year of Xiyu Duhu, which is sets in the BC60,but starts its control in BC59.Based on wooden slips of Xuanquan,the author points out the insufficient of the historical documents about the recordings of Xiyu Duhu's units setup.In addition, the author does reseach on the relationship between Xiyu Duhu and Wuji Xiaowei,and he also thinks the Wuji Xiaowei under the control of Central Northern army of the military subordination,and controled by the Prefecture of Dunhuang in the administative affairs.The Wuji Xiaowei was lead by the Secretary of Farm in cultivating lands,and restrained by the Xiyu Duhu in the matter of defending the border.The author also does textual research on all the Xiyu Duhu's term of office and their main events,and presents by the form.After reseaching,the author thinks Duan Huizong was offered as the Xiyu Duhu for the second time,whose office term likely from the BC20 to BC18. Moreover, a Xiyu Duhu named Qing and he worked during AD1 and AD3.At last, the author does textual reseach on Xiyu Duhu's Duties and historical role. The author thinks protecting the country is the main responsibilities of Xiyu Duhu, and their important responsibilities are"preserving the way"and ensuring smooth transportation of the Silk Road. The author also thinks Xiyu Duhu maintained stability of Northwest's border area, and it also strength the exchanges on politics,economy and culture between West and China.Besides,it ensured smooth of the Silk Road in the Chinese history,and it was very indispensable in the national feudatory system.Meanwhile, its setup had very important historical significances.
