For nearly a century, the war-themed movie has become a distinctive and unique film type for its broad contents, profound impact and lasting vitality.The development of film art needs to rely on the creative concept updates of directors of every country, and on the absorption and learning among different genres of film aesthetics. Then it brings theatric language updates and changes. This paper studied the modern and contemporary war-themed films from America and China, and adopted the comparative methods to analysis, conclude and summarize these American and Chinese war-themed classical films by comparing the different recognitions, developments and changes reflected on the film conceptions of the directors from these two countries. This paper aims at further promoting the macro creative rules and micro creative means that can be used by the Chinese directors in filming war-themed movies, and providing the feasible creative concepts for war-themed films shooting.This paper contains three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. The first part introduces the motive, aim and meaning of doing the comparison of the contemporary war films between China and America, and analyzes the current studies on this subject, summarizing the methods, contents and creative points of this study. The second part can be divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the purpose, meaning, method, innovation of the research; the second chapter gives theoretical distinction of the war films, summing up the creative results on war films between China and America; the third chapter draws a careful comparative research on film directors'concepts in filming the war films; the fourth chapter gives aesthetic value inspiration made by comparing American and Chinese directors'concepts in filming the war films; the chapter five gives a future inspiration and prospect of Chinese war film creation. Give a profound conclusion on the comparative results of comparing the creative concepts of American and Chinese directors on shooting war films.
