A Study On Wenqiao Local Dialect

This paper gives a comparatively detailed investigation and study on the local dialect of Wenqiao, which, adjacent to Dongan County, Hunan Province, lies in the north of the Quanzhou County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.Chapter One is a brief introduction of the Quanzhou County and Wenqiao Town's geography, humanities and the evolution of history. Meanwhile it briefs the condition of the language spoken in the area, and of the two men interviewed, and soon.Chapter Two concerns about the phonetic system of Wenqiao Local Dialect. The paper first provides the description, analysis and induction, including the Shengmu, Yunmu and tone, then the characteristics of these three elements, the relation of cooperation between Shengmu and Yunmu, of cooperation among these three elements. Then it discusses the tone-variation about the two-word-group and the different pronunciation between written and spoken forms of some words. It finally gives the diachronic comparison revealing the corresponding relation between that of current Wenqiao Local Dialect and the phonetic system of the middle ancient time, the synchronic comparison revealing the corresponding relation between the phonetic system of current Wenqiao Local Dialect and that of Putonghua.Chapter Three deals with the vocabulary about Wenqiao Local Dialect. Some characteristics of the dialect vocabulary are first introduced. After that, the article, in terms of different kinds, lists some words that are corresponding to but not entirely identical to Putonghua. A few words only found in Wenqiao Local Dialect are added to it.Chapter Four, consisting of morphology (classified into 2 section: notional words and form words) and syntax, studies the grammar of Wenqiao Local Dialect. The former details the main characteristics and grammatical function of the parts of speech while the latter deals in general terms with the word order and the structural characteristics of several special sentence patterns.Some research materials are attached in the end of this paper, including the comparative study material between the phonetic system of Wenqiao Local Dialect and that of the middle ancient time, that between the phonetic system of Wenqiao Local Dialect and that of Putonghua, then some illustrations for grammar.
