This article tries to make a comprehensive research on positive-negative rhetorical questions in Modern Chinese which are specific types of rhetorical questions, and aims to reveal this type rhetorical questions' form features, unique expressing functions and the causes leading to positive or negative inclination.There are altogether four parts in the dissertation.â… . Preface. In this part it specifies the study's object and range, and preliminarily reveals the features of positive-negative rhetorial questions in comparison with other relative sentence patterns.â…¡. Constituents. Positive-negative rhetorical questions is composed of structure entity, tone and context, which respectively performs a different function. In this part, the types of "X" in structure entity "X ^ X" are classified described in detail.â…¢. Discussions about "relative questions". This part discusses the inside and outside causes leading to positive or negative inclination of this type rhetorical questions, with an eye to such three aspects as the predicate word semantics, the limitation of sentence structure and the selection of pragmatics principle. It also researches the historical processes of positive-negative questions and preliminarily proves the importance of predicate words and the optimum selection of "X" to Adjectives, especially to quality Ajectives.â…£. The end words. The thought about the styles in which positive-negative rhetorical questions appear, and the study' s necessities about positive-negative rhetorical questions.
