The art of Jin Ping Mei and A Dream of Red Mansions attracts the attention of the academic circle. Recently, the research on the two books with western narrative becomes a highlight. However, few analyzed and compared the narrative art of the two. The current dissertation analyzes mainly their merits of narrative art and presents the succession, development and transcendence of A Dream of Red Mansions from Jin Ping Mei. This dissertation consists of four parts:The first part is about the choice and adjustment of narrative pattern, which is analyzed by means of narrator and narrative angle. Based on the narrative of the storyteller, the characters in the text act as narrators, narrating the relevant events in Jin Ping Mei. There is excellent second-narrative and more narrative levels in A Dream of Red Mansions. And the point of view of characters and objective narrative are applied in Jin Ping Mei on the ground of omniscient narrative. Combining omniscient narrative, limited narrative with objective narrative, A Dream of Red Mansions achieves unprecedented achievements.The second part is about the construction and indistinct management of narrative time and space. This dissertation analyzed the method and art in constructing narrative time and space, and analyzed how to connect narrative time and story time, real space and dreamy space organically. The reasons for indistinct management of narrative time and space are disclosed, and the achievements are also pointed out.The third part is about the observance and breakthrough of narrative arrangement. The dissertation presents that Jin Ping Mei and A Dream of Red Mansions observe the traditional narrative arrangement, and goes a step further breaking through the traditional simulated context emphatically on the aspects of content and form.The fourth part is about moral, irony and something else. The art of moral and irony in the two texts are mainly analyzed. The two books describe the fate of characters and realities in the circle of Eros and love respectively. In this way, the authors express their pity and sadness for discontent with realities and the ruin of ideals, taunt and overturn the dirty social realities mercilessly, in a strong ironic tone.There are approximately 31,000 words in total.
