Study On The Protection & Sustainable Development Of The Famous Historical & Cultural City Of Oasis Zhangye

As a kind of cultural heritages, historical & cultural cities' values not only lie in their cultural relics and history but also consist in that they have recorded the nation blood relationship, the state characteristics, the culture vein and the human nature evolvement. In addition, these cities also integrate the current with the past, the material life with the inner world. However, in recent years, nearsighted and narrow-minded behaviors show that many people don't really understand their ultimate demands in fact. Lots of historical & cultural cities are destroyed by the rash and stupid behaviors of urban development.Under the background of Opening-up the West in china, protecting the famous historical & cultural city of oasis becomes more and more difficult. The author taking Zhangye City on the silk road as the case study its basic characteristics by analyzing its historical and contemporary economic and cultural values. Also, the paper inquires into how to understand rationally the values of Zhangye. Based on the investigation and study of the history and present condition of the famous state level historical & cultural city of oasis Zhangye, this paper puts forward some new viewpoints and suggestions on the research topic of sustainable development of Zhangye.Firstly, the author looks back on the course of the protection of the historical regions and introduces some documents and organizations on the protection of the historical & cultural areas. After that, the paper discusses the theory of supporting the study, such as oasis theory, sciences of human settlement, geomantic configuration doctrine, urban ecology, sustainable development theory, historical geography, cultural geography, and tourism planning theory. In the third part of this paper, the author analyses the natural and locational environment of Zhangye and sets up the periphery concept of the city. Then, with the guidance of historical materialism, the paper demonstrates the basic characteristics and cultural vein of Zhangye. Both the two analyses form the basic study of the famous historical & cultural city Zhangye. In order to understand rationally the values of Zhangye, with the aid of some evaluative principles and factors, the paper evaluates the values of cultural relics, historic sites, and city characteristics. And then, for the sake of sustainable development of the famous state level historical & cultural city of oasis Zhangye, the author demonstrates the present situation and strategy of the tourism of Zhangye. In the seventh part of the paper, having the aid of Factor Analysis and URMS(Urban and Regional Planning Model System) software, it compares the development situation of Zhangye with other three oasis cities. After all the analyses, this paper proposes some suggestions about the protection & sustainable development of Zhangye, such as how to control the deterioration of the ecological environment of the city of oasis, how to keep in balance the protection & development of historical & cultural scenery, and how to combine the development of tourism and historical & cultural characteristics of the city, etc.
