| In Tudor dynasty, the society of England took place a great deal of essential transformation. Capitalistic elements had been into shape in handicraft industry, and commercial economy of towns had been developed to a high level. This social phenomenon finally collapsed the foundation of feudal economy. Tudor powerful emperors controlled all kinds of commodity activities, and then formed a set of mercantile policies. Urban capital flowed into country's agriculture, industry and commerce. More and more old city residents flowed into new countries. Then a uniform market of labour force and commodity had been formed.All these changes had show that Tudor English towns played an important role in the process of social transformation. The major idea of this thesis is to evaluate the Tudor towns' status from the view of economic development.This thesis explains the characteristic of Tudor urban economy from three aspects. Firstly, show the urban economic life by a number of data. The growing population formed a uniform labour force market, and there had been some capitalistic elements in urban industry and commerce.Secondly, point out the motivity and resistance during the urban economic development. Tudor government used the mercantile policy to protect the young industry and commodity. This policy improved the progress of capitalism in English society. But the old guild system restricted the further development of capitalism.Thirdly, there was a distributary of urban wealth in Tudor dynasty, and a new relation between city and country had been formed. Many old cities declined one by one, but some new cities appeared surrounding those urbanized countries.By these analyses we could draw a conclusion: Tudor urban economy promoted the growing of capitalism in England, and accelerated the collapse of feudalism in industry and commerce. It made a good prepare for the coming of industrial society, and helped English finished the transformation from feudalism to capitalism first in the world.
