| After the decline of international trades along the land Silk Road, the trades between different nationalities and regions were still proceeding in northwest of China, and tended to become prosperous in Qing Dynasty. Among them, the national trades in regions of Gansu, Ningxia, and Qinghai held a great place during the earlier stage of Qing Dynasty. Moreover, it was also an important content of the northwest regional economic history in China' s feudal society and belongs to the study of regional social economic history.During this period the national trades in this regions were mainly divided into 2 parts, the official trades with tea for horse and the exchange of Markets in Su Prefecture, and the folk trades. The reason of the development of the folk trades included the following 3: first, the necessity of reassure the Northwest frontier in the earlier stage of Qing Dynasty; second, the peculiar environmental and economic conditions; third, the Qing government softened the policies of trades. The national trades in these regions were characterized with various channels of trade circulation, folk form of trades, rich in merchandise, and acceleration of the rate of daily necessities.The activities of the national trades in regions of Gansu, Ningxia, and Qinghai during the earlier stage of Qing Dynasty have a great significance. It played a big role of logistics supply in strengthening the frontier defense and remaining the unity of feudal multi-national state. It maintained the relationship of helping supply each other' s needs between different nations, and promoted the development of the regions. Owing to the activities of folk trades, the markets and economy were enlivened in the Northwest Regions, and the modes of local production and life changed greatly.The research of the situation of national trades regions of Gansu, Ningxia, and Qinghai will contribute to a better understanding on the procession of social economy in northwest of China.
