As far as the group of writers is concerned, contemporary Chinese novels take on a prosperous look. In accordance with the policy of diversity, the genres develop quickly and a large number of new writers as well as new works come into being. The diversity of the themes and types, and the use of creative writing skill, all contribute to the prosperity of Chinese literature. However, behind this prosperous situation, there are still some problems which we have to deal with. From the study of representative contemporary Chinese novels, this thesis attempts to analyze two tendencies in part of contemporary literary works: the mutual-repetition between works of different writers and the self-patternization of a writer's own works (in the case of Linbai). In the mean time, it goes deep into the subjective and objective causes of these two tendencies (for example, attaching to the mainstream discourse; following present focus; the influence of the generation culture). Finally it indicates that the writer should always keep an eye on all the public focus and social mainstream discourse, and keep a necessary distance to the established writing pattern or aesthetic style. We have to keep in mind that the unique and non-repetitive works can only be achieved when writers firmly stick to their principle, individuality and selfhood.
